Shelter with a view
Located in Mount Tronador, between Castaño Overa and Alerce graciers, 2000 metres above sea level. On the second floor, there is room to sleep approximately 60 people, and on the ground floor there is a kitchen, a large dining room, bathrooms and a large area to dry wet clothes, heated by wood.
Tronador's ice sheet is ideal for climbing. You can climb the three peaks of Mount Tronador: the Argentinean peak, the International peak (3478 meters above sea level) and the Chilean peak. Due to the risks posed by the deep crevasses, these climbing tours must be done with a specialized guide. This area is the setting for numerous trips and adventures. Year after year, there are several ice-climbing and mountain climbing courses.
The regular ascent to the lodge is through the Pampa Linda trail. The road covers 3 kilometers and 50 meters of uneven ground, and then a pretty plain terrain from the park rangers' post. From there, you begin going up along a 6 km mountain trail until you get to the top of the hill, to a place called La Almohadilla. Then the incline becomes lesser, and after walking 2 kilometers with a 150 meter slope, you get to Descanso de los Caballos, where you begin the final ascent of 3 kilometers and 350 meters, walking along the cliff, without vegetation and with traces of paint on the stone that mark the way to the lodge.
